5 Things You Should Do to Your Lawn This Week

Spring is here, and your lawn is waking up fast. What you do right now can set the tone for the entire season—lush, green, and healthy… or patchy and struggling. If you only have time for a few things this week, focus on these five steps.

1. Rake and Clean Up Debris Winter leaves behind more than just cold weather—there’s usually a layer of dead grass, leaves, and debris suffocating your lawn. Lightly rake to remove buildup and allow sunlight and air to reach the soil. This also helps prevent mold and disease.

2. Check Your Sprinkler System Before you rely on your irrigation system, turn it on and inspect each zone. Look for broken heads, leaks, or areas with poor coverage. Catching issues early can save water, money, and headaches later in the season.

3. Apply a Spring Fertilizer Your lawn needs nutrients to bounce back after winter. A balanced, slow-release fertilizer will promote healthy growth without overwhelming the grass. This is one of the most important steps for achieving that deep green look.

4. Address Bare or Patchy Areas If you notice thin or dead spots, now is the time to overseed. Loosen the soil, apply seed, and keep it consistently moist. Early spring is ideal because temperatures are mild and help new grass establish quickly.

5. Hold Off on Mowing (Until It’s Ready)It’s tempting to fire up the mower on the first nice day, but cutting too early can stress your lawn. Wait until your grass is dry and about 3–4 inches tall. When you do mow, never remove more than one-third of the blade.

Final Tip: A little attention now goes a long way. Staying ahead of these simple tasks will make your lawn easier to maintain—and much better looking—all season long.

If you’d rather not deal with it yourself, our team can handle everything from spring cleanups to irrigation inspections and full lawn care programs. Just reach out—we’re happy to help.
